Can I get infected with STD or HIV doing oral sex?

Question:

I am 30 years old healthy male living in Germany. I am heterosexual and happily married.

A couple of days ago I had sexual contact with a gay guy who assured me he was clean. I performed oral sex for him for a couple of minutes and then he did the same for me. None of us ejaculated.

Now I’m very afraid and the question is: is there any chance of getting infected by HIV or any STD through doing oral sex even without ejaculation? Should I get tested or something else?

Doctor’s answer:

Hello. Regarding your question: if a person is infected with HIV then all the body secretions and liquids can contain virus and it can be transmitted even without ejaculation – only direct contact is needed for transmission, even if it’s short-time.

In 4-6 weeks you should have the following blood tests: for HIV antigen and antibody, Western Blot test and Polymerase Chain Reaction.

Do not try to have tests earlier as they can get false positive due to flu or other factors.

Best regards.
